maryland. american family and we rise or fall together as one nation and as one people. >> early this morning, president obama addressed the country vowing to work hard for four more years. it's the day after election day and we are going to get you update and up to speed on everything that happened while you were sleeping. thanks for joining us i am preg megan pringle. >> i am charley crowson. >> first we have to get to the weather because that's a developing story. >> charley, we are talking about a winter weather advisory because we could be seeing snow mixing with rain as we go throughout the day. so, the areas here shaded in the blue color that's what we are talking about by 10 into tomorrow and as we check out what's going on in terms of the wet weather it is here on maryland's most powerful radar and this is pushing off towards the north it will continue to do so also dealing with very cold temperatures this morning and also very windy conditions. megan and charley over to you. president obama will spend four more years in the white house. >> he beat mitt romney and this morning t.j. winick is live in chicago with

reaction to that victory a land mash victory for president obam -- mark victory for president obama who wrapped up his remarks a few hours ago. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. in end a series of narrow state win that is gave president obama a decisive victory. president obama won a second term tuesday after a race that was primarily fought in just a handful of battleground states. >> you, the american people, remind us while our road has been hard, while our journey has been long we have picked ourselves up and we have fought our way back and we know in our hearts that for united states of america the best is yet to come. >> reporter: florida is still too close to call but even if romney won state obama handly beats him in the electoral college vote. the popular vote will likely be closer.

>> when i -- whether i earned your vote or not, i have listened to you, i have learned from you, and you have made me a better president. >> reporter: obama beat republican challenger mitt romney after nabbing almostevery one of the 12 crucial bate ground states. around 1 a.m. eastern romney spoke to supporters in boston and let them know they made a concession call to the president. >> i called president obama to congratulate him on his victimry and his supporters and -- victory and his spores and came bane -- supporters and campaign deserve congratulations. >> reporter: he said it was time to put aside partisan bickering and work together for the good of the country. >> this is a time of challenges for america and i pray that the president will be successful in guiding our nation. >> reporter: nearly re-- newly reelect the president spent night here in chicago and has no public events for today. he and the first family returned to the white house where they will spend four more

years at 5:30 this afternoon of the reporting live, t.j. winick abc news now back to you. as you get ready to head out the door this morning you should know turn that heater on in advance. >> lauren cook hey lauren. >> reporter: a good morning to turn on the seat warmers. we have trouble on 95. a crash cleared from the northbound lanes at 195 but another accident is still going to be on the shoulder of the northbound lanes at the beltway. so something to keep in mind. and as we look live at 95 downtown, you will notice everything is moving along. no delays through the fort mchenry tunnel harbor tunnel nice and clear and this is what 695 looks like in parkville at harford road. normal conditions right now just 11 minutes to travel outer loop from 95 all the way up to 83. the west side going to be nice and clear. you are looking at a 9-minute ride from 759 down to interstate 70. and if you are using the jfx to get into the city, no problems to talk about traveling southbound from the beltway all

the way to fayette street. this is an 11 minute ride. that's a look at your abc2 timesaver traffic now over to you. the governor what message to the children of maryland you and you family matter. >> that's what he told a crowd after the question of same sex marriage passed. sherrieionson is live what's the reaction -- sherrie johnson is live with the reaction. >> reporter: maryland made history as voters decided to you know allow same sex marriage in the state and this is an ongoing issue. and you know it's a question that's been defeated each of the 32 times it has been on the ballot in other states. maryland is now the 7th state in addition to the district of columbia to approve marriage equality. voting on question 6 came when supporters argued that same sex marriage is a civil right and that children of same sex couples deserved to be raised by parents who are married. this law doesn't force clergy to perform marriage ceremonies in violation of religious

beliefs. religious organizations are not required to participate in the ceremonies if they object. opponents of question 6 collected more than double the number of signatures required to push it to a referendum. now maryland is the first state to legalize same sex marge through a ballot referendum and last night we caught up with mayor stephanie rawlings blake and we have all new reaction. >> i am so grateful to the people of maryland for standing up for dignity for standing up for equality. >> reporter: now local courts can begin issuing same sex marriage license in january. and it's also important to note that same sex marriage was approved in maine. reporting live sherrieionson abc -- sherrie johnson abc2 us. >> get ready for new casino and play back jack. maryland voters expanded gambling in the state. linda so is live this morning at maryland live casino which is new casino and they must be

excited about the table games but disappointed about the new casino being built in pg county. >> reporter: that's more competition and they will probably lose money when gambleers go to the casino once it's unup and running instead of coming here. that casino in pg county cannot open for business for another several years. that is by law. more on that in just a bit. fireworks went off last night over the poe topeic river at national harbor where supporters of question 7 gathered a close vote but at around midnight we learned it has passed. there was a lot of money spent on the campaign from both side supporters saying the extra money will go to schools opponents don't believe that will happen. but in the end, maryland will be getting table games like blackjack and roulette and another casino in pg county. the county executive glad voters approve the measure. >> prince georges county you carried it home and i want to let you know that the money that comes from this just like

we said all along so sometimes you can't believe a comptroller, the money going towards education, it's going to help build -- fix 210, and going to health care and jobs and jobs and jobs. >> reporter: now those table games will be added to casinos as soon as the individual casinos are ready to do that. they need to renovate somethings that makes way for the table games to be added. but by law that new casino that is going to be built in pg county cannot open until 2016. so we have a few more years. those table games will be added as soon as possible. we are live in arundel mills. there's question 4 on the ballot the dream act. it would allow undocumented stewed don't get in-state tuition rates for college and

universities. let's look at how that all shaped up. 59% voted for it and 41% against it. you can see that number right there on the screen 97% reporting. so again that's question 4 on the dream act if passed. news time 6:08. roscoe bartlett is the only incumbent not keeping his seat. he lost to john delanny a self- made millionaire who is one of the wealthiest members of congress with a net worth of more than $260 million. democrats in maryland are celebrating. >> and for a good reason. from cardin to cummings they cleaned house and we will go to the victory party to show you how things went. >> no matter where you are or what shape you are in exercise makes all the difference. >> hope downjolt -- enjoyed --

just after 11 the lengthy race for the white house came to an end as president obama crossed the 270 electoral votes threshold securing his reelection. >> for those watching at the maryland democratic party the night of celebration may have sound more like a ravens game.

down branches or trees that are weak nd by sandy. >> so we could have some snow on the ground and certainly some snow on the trees that makes trees already have their base flooded more likely to fall over and that's something that we really will worry about. >> before the storm gets there police are going to be going through the hardest hit areas telling people to get to shelters. in many of the parts power has not been restored and the wind chill is forecasted to be in the 20s tonight and there's the threat of coastal flooding from the storm and especially since much of the sand that once formed the barrier between the sea and people's homes have been washed away. >> combined with all the people who can't get gas to use the generators or waiting six hours in line to get gas. it's incredible and hard to believe they are getting hit. >> a bad scenario and dangerous. temperatures dipping down into the 20s. we will see more of that as well because we will have a wind chl across the area gusts -- chill across the area gusts to 35 miles per hour.

rain switching over to some snow. mainly as we go into the afternoon but we will call it a within theory mix before that. we look -- wintery mix before that. most of the rain is across the eastern shore right now. it's to the south of baltimore but all this is beginning to work its way up towards the north. so we zoom in across the eastern shore where we are seeing moderate amount of rain falling now. you can see that in the yellows and orange colors around henderson and also goldsboro and row price and centerville getting in on that heavier rainfall across the area. also, sliding a little bit further to the south and east you can see around mill creek and also carters plains woodland getting in on that. so we are going to be dealing with some very wet weather throughout the day and a within theory mix. around 3 or 4 -- wintery mix. around 3 or 4 it will be on the rough side. temperatures at 38 in baltimore it's cold morning. 31 in manchester.

and 33 in emmettsburg and havre de grace in the upper 30s. 39 chestertown and annapolis at 37. more of the same in march della springs. winds sustained at 5 to 10 miles an hour. with that, we have a wind chill so that 39, 38 i showed you this baltimore feels like 32 this morning. we feel at freezing. look at germantown, feels like 20s like charley talked about. this is at the surface for today. we have the nor'easter that's going to be riding up along the coast. we will stay cold and windy and then we will start to see the snow moving in here as we go into 3, 4 and it's going to be a rough go of it when you come home from work. take it easy on the roadways and this is what we can expect in terms of accumulation. higher amounts the further to the west you go. and the east you go along the eastern shore we can see up to 2 inches of some slushy snow across the area. we will keep you posted on

what's going on. let's check the traffic with lawyeren cook good morning -- lauren cook good morning. >> reporter: ed snow is not the best -- the snow is not the best for kids to play around. >> the kid will like it. >> reporter: he expect slushy conditions on the road into the evening. take it slow if at all possible. in fells point we have a traffic alert. and investigation into yesterday's fire that shut down the northbound lanes of south broadway that's going to be between eastern avenue and fleet street. no word on when it will reopen. and as we check in and look at 95, here at the fort mchenry tunnel, everything is moving along harbor tunnel is going to be in great shape. and as we check in and look live at 83, here in hunt valley, traffic moving right along and no delays once you get on to the jfx. it's normal conditions 11 minutes to travel southbound from the beltway to fayette street. 695 no delays for on the outer loop from 95 up to 83. and that stretch will take you 11 minutes and you are looking at an 11 minute ride on the west side of the beltway to travel the outer loop from 795

is it headed our way is this we are in for a change. we have details on that straight ahead. thanks for joining us i am megan pringle. >> i am charley crowson the let's get to the weather because it's a big story and this could be developing throughout the day. >> exactly. this is going to develop throughout the day. we have started out with the wintery mix in some spots this morning. but it switched back over to rain not the snow yet. not yet. switched back to rain. this is what's going to continue going throughout the day. we will start to see more snow in the picture as we go into 3 or 4 especially the overnight hours. but as we look at maryland's most powerful radar right now, this rain just getting closer and closer to baltimore. it's now in kept county and also in anne arundel county and this will be the scenario as we go throughout the day. now we have a winter weather advisory because we do have a potential for snow. but, it's only for our northern counties we can see it around here as we cecil and harford and carroll county getting in on that
